Blacks Harbour is on the Back Side (Westerly) of Grand Manan Island in the Bay of Fundy. It is from this site where the best Dulse is harvested via crews that go out near low tide in colorful dories to collect this nutritious delicacy off the exposed rocks and sea ground. After harvest by dories the dulse is sorted and transported to drying sites, before it is packaged for sale and consumed. Dark Harbor is always a favorite painting location for artists that seem to come to this spot from all over the world to appreciate where the tall trees and cliffs meet the see. The year round local residents and workers of Dark Harbor are somewhat renowned for their "independent and youthful party spirit".
